The World Health Organization will re-convene its emergency committee on Thursday to determine whether a coronavirus outbreak is the same as a public health emergency of international concern, because the total number of people infected in mainland China exceeds those infected with SARS during the 2002-2003 epidemic. Experts say the vaccine for this virus is still far away.

Schools in Beijing have been closed indefinitely, and foreigners who have been evacuated from Wuhan, which is the center of distribution, have begun to arrive in their home countries or at temporary screening locations, including via charter flights for Japanese and US citizens. Many countries limit flights to China, with American Airlines suspending several routes scheduled for February and March.
